In the last quarter of 2021, Facebook reported a deficit of users compared to the third quarter, which translates into an unprecedented fact for the social network led by Mark Zuckerberg that had never in its history shown a decrease in the number of people who use it.
This was announced by the parent company Meta, which said that daily active users went from one thousand 930 million to one thousand 929 million, that is, one million people stopped using Facebook in just three months.
Although it was not considered an affectation that puts Facebook’s stability at risk, it can set a precedent because, in each quarterly report made by the company, a significant increase was always noticed.
Even, it was considered a factor for Facebook shares to fall almost 25% during Wednesday and Thursday, also following the trend of the financial market with most assets down.
The explanation made by Mark Zuckerberg is that Facebook has more and more “tough” competition, more and more social networks in which Internet users can use their time. Even in the high domes of Meta there was mention of TikTok and how it has become a regular competitor that has had more and more people registered. For this reason Facebook will focus on developing Reels that offers a function similar to what TikTok does.
Zuckerberg said that, compared to the last quarter, in the United States and Canada had a decrease of one million active users, a fact that increased in the category “rest of the world” where up to 3 million fewer people were registered in the daily use of the platform.
On the contrary, in Europe and Asia one million active users were added.
