At MWC 2023, one of the most important events in the technology industry, Lenovo unveiled a preview of its upcoming computers, particularly one that features an extendable screen, a technology that has been gaining popularity recently and could be important in the near future.
The computer presented by Lenovo has a foldable screen that can be extended from 12.7 inches to 15.3 inches and at the same time corrects its 4:3 aspect ratio resolution in its original size, which includes a resolution of 2024 x 1604, and extends it to 8:9, resulting in a final resolution of 2024 x 2368.
This change is done with just the press of a button and the entire modification takes about 10 seconds through the activation of a pair of motors located underneath the keyboard. The company behind the screen’s production for Lenovo is Sharp, which has often collaborated with the brand, such as in the ThinkPad X1 Fold.
This was not the only device with a rollable screen that Lenovo unveiled. Through Motorola, Lenovo presented its prototype of a rollable smartphone, which aims to stretch the screen vertically rather than horizontally, storing the screen on the back of the device.
In this way, it goes from measuring five inches in a 15:9 aspect ratio to measuring 6.5 inches with a 22:9 aspect ratio. This allows the screen to adjust to display content without black bars or even to have space for a keyboard. It can even be contracted to reveal a front-facing camera for video calls or to display a speaker for calls.
NOTE
Currently, there is no release date for rollable phones and screens.
